SunglassesWhile winter weather might be lingering, it's time to start considering what your next pair of sunglasses is going to look like. Shades are the perfect accessory year-round, but they're especially important when you're spending long hours outside. With warmer weather around the corner, you're likely to be spending more time outdoors in the sun and will need to protect your eyes from damaging UV rays. When you're in the market for a new pair of glasses, consider the following 6 tips:

1. Make Sure They Function

While sunglasses can be fashionable, they have to be functional to be effective. Some sunglasses don't protect your eyes from UV rays or provide much shade at all. Some plastic novelty glasses and other cheap options found in gas stations and drug stores don't provide the protection you need. It may seem like you're saving money, but you're really throwing it away on something that doesn't work.

2. Examine Durability

What kind of activities do you like to do outside? If you're more into lounging, you may opt for a higher-end pair of fashion sunglasses. While high-end fashion can be made with sleek, flexible, durable material, they're not intended for an active lifestyle. If you're into athletics or staying on the move, consider sunglasses that are made to be worn during high action activity

3. Assess Comfort

When you assess comfort, look at shape, material, and size. What are you most comfortable with? Sunglasses are meant to be worn for a long time whenever you're outside in the sun. If you prefer the feel of metal over plastic, keep that in mind. If you prefer smaller, less obtrusive glasses, make sure that you search smaller options. Remember to try the pair you're considering on before you make a decision.

4. Consider Portability

How big are the sunglasses that you'd like? What kind of case is included and how big is it? Do they fold up? If so, how much do they fold? All of those questions should be asked before choosing a pair of sunglasses. Your sunglasses should go everywhere you do when you plan on spending time outside. That includes vacations, trips to the beach, errands, and more. Can your sunglasses be carried and stored easily?

5. Don't Forget Style

Your style helps define you to others. What style of sunglasses will match your overall vibe? There are classic options, celebrity lines, sport sunglasses, bold new fashionable choices, and so many more. Consider which style fits you and then browse your local eye care provider's selection.

6. Think About Statement

What kind of statement will your sunglasses make? If they're too flashy, will you want to use them daily? If they're too plain, will you be excited enough to remember to wear them whenever you're spending time outside? When choosing your next pair of sunglasses, consider what kind of statement they make and whether or not that statement fits your needs.
